Tyron Woodley retained the welterweight title at UFC 209, by receiving a majority decision win over Stephen Thompson, but Dana White didn’t see the fight going the same way.

Both men were very hesitant throughout much of the bout, but Thompson was the aggressor more often. In round five, Woodley dropped Thompson and had the challenger in serious trouble, but the champ was unable to finish the fight like he had said he would. Speaking to FOX Sports 1 after the disappointing fight, White had this to say (quote via FOX Sports 1 press release):

“I had it 3-2 for Wonderboy. I didn’t think it was going to be a draw. One of the judges scored the last 10-8 and that’s insane. But the fans and I are not the judges. Tyron is the champ. The judges called him the winner.”

Kenny Florian also offered this take on the bout:

“Both guys respected each other and with both being counter strikers, we got a slow fight with both waiting to counter the other. Wonderboy was hesitant and didn’t want to get taken down. Woodley was playing the patience game. Woodley was rolling the dice with his game plan tonight and he came out lucky.”

Thompson and Woodley fought back in November, and the latter retained the title via a majority draw ruling.
