UFC 211: Frankie Edgar Says Title Shot “Makes Sense”

Frankie Edgar

By FCF Staff

Frankie Edgar ensured he remains the #2 ranked featherweight last night, by stopping rising star Yair Rodriguez, but the decorated fighter understands another shot at the belt, may not come his way.

Edgar turned to his wrestling and top game at UFC 211, and punished the dynamic striker with elbows and punches. By the end of the second round, Rodriguez’s left eye was badly swollen, and the fight was called.

After the impressive win, Edgar was asked about his next bout, and the former lightweight champ said this (quote via MMA Junkie):

“Of course (a title shot is) what I want,” Edgar said. “I’m the No. 2 guy. One of those guys has got to lose. It makes sense for me to be the guy, but that’s not how it works obviously. But I’ll lobby for it if that’s the case.”

145 champion Jose Aldo will take on the interim champ, Max Holloway, at UFC 212 next month on June 3rd. But, since Edgar has been defeated twice by Aldo, the consensus is that the UFC would not be interested in booking a third fight between the two.
