Claudia Gadelha became the first woman to finish Karolina Kowalkiewicz in her pro-MMA career, and the Brazilian star is crediting her decision to train in Albuquerque, New Mexico, for the impressive win.

Gadleha battled Kowalkiewicz in the co-main event of UFC 212, and after quickly taking the contender down, she ended the fight with a rear-naked-choke. The victory was Gadelha’s second, since she elected to train in Albuquerque, under the guidance of Chris Luttrell and Ray Yee. The strawweight has also spent time training at the Jackson-Wink MMA in the New Mexico city as well.

After the win, Gadelha had this to say on the post-fight, FOX Sports 1 show, while discussing the changes she’s made (quote via FOX Sports 1 press release):

“I’ve been saying all week, I’ve changed. I had eight hard weeks training away from my family. But I had to become the new Claudia. I felt like I needed attention. A coach and training partners. I challenged myself. And that’s what I did. The new Claudia is coming. I want to become the person to beat [champion] Joanna [Jedrzejczyk].”

Gadelha has faced Jedrzejczyk twice now, and lost the bouts via split decision and unanimous decision.
