UFC 214: Tyron Woodley Reports “We’re Satisfied With The Victory”

Tyron Woodley’s bout with Demian Maia received plenty of boos, and UFC President Dana White was highly critical of the fight, but the welterweight champ says he’s “satisfied”.

Woodley repeatedly squashed takedown attempts from Maia at UFC 214, and countered the grappler with punches, en route to a decision win. But, since the bout didn’t feature many memorable moments, and so few strikes, the fight has been widely criticized.

After the card, however, Woodley had this to say about whether he hurt his hand during the bout, while speaking to FS 1 (quote via FOX Sports 1 press release):

“No, my shoulder slipped out a little in the second round on an overhand right. I had to keep it tight after that. I couldn’t smoke him with overhand rights like I wanted to. But I’m an athlete and you just have to deal with it. He took 20 shots trying to take me down and didn’t once, and he’s won seven in a row and he’s submitted more than half of them. We’re satisfied with the victory.”

“In the end, it’s about winning and fighting the right fight. Every time I threw an overhand right, he tried to take me down,” Woodley also relayed. ” I had to throw straight shots and even had to eat a couple from him.”

Woodley has gone 2-0-1 now since he knocked Robbie Lawler out last July to become champ.
