Jeremy Stephens lined himself up for a big stakes fight at UFC 215, by dedeating Gilbert Melendez, but the featherweight doesn’t plan to compete anytime too soon.

Stephens took on the former Strikeforce lightweight champ in the main card of Saturday’s event, and won via unanimous decision. After the bout, Stephens was asked about the possibility of fighting former champ, Jose Aldo next, and the veteran said this (quote via MMA Junkie):

“I would love that fight, but November, it’s a little tight on my schedule, and I can’t push two things back,” said Stephens, who postponed his wedding so that he could take the Melendez bout.  “So December or January, something like that – that would be something I’d definitely look forward to. He’s a banger and a class act.

“I think me and him could get it on and give the fans a great showing. But I just can’t do November. I can’t keep pushing things back.”

With the win, Stephens snapped a two fight losing streak and moved his overall record to 26-14.
