Ben Nguyen is sitting outside the flyweight division’s top five rankings, as he gets set to fight Jussier “Formiga” tonight at UFC 221. But, the fighter believes he could be in the title shot mix, if he scores a win at the Perth event.

The 29 year-old, who is coming off a quick, submission win over Tim Elliott, was quoted saying the following in a story at UFC.com.

“The last title challenger was Ray Borg, and he beat Jussier Formiga to get his shot, so why can’t it be my turn?” Nguyen said, while discussing his title shot prospects. “It can definitely be me and I feel like everyone in the top five has already fought DJ except for Jussier, so I feel like if I got into that top five, it could definitely be me and I’ve got that different style that no one really has, and that footwork and head movement and dangerous striking. I think that would be a lot more exciting than watching another grappler fight Demetrious Johnson.”

Heading into UFC 221, “Formiga” is ranked #4, while Nguyen is sitting in the #8 spot.
