Although Kelvin Gastelum could take a big step towards a middleweight title shot this Saturday, the fighter still hopes to return to welterweight at some juncture, and rematch Tyron Woodley.

Gastelum will face the “Jacare” Souza this Saturday at UFC 224. Since Gastelum is ranked #5 in the promotion’s middleweight division, and Souza is #2, the fight has significant, title shot implications.

While speaking to the media recently, however, Gastelum said he hasn’t closed the door on fighting at welterweight again. In addition, Gastelum had this to say about his 2015, split decision loss to the now reigning, welterweight champ Woodley.

“I keep winning and eventually I’m going to fight for the title at middleweight, which is crazy But yeah, in the back of my head, way in the back, I still have welterweight in mind.”

“That fight kind of has like a splinter in me, you know? A splinter in my heart,” Gastelum said. “I kind of want to get that fight back, make the weight, make it right, you know? And a lot of people including myself think I won that fight.”

UFC 224 will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
