UFC 227: TJ Dillashaw Questions Whether Henry Cejudo Deserves Shot at 135 Title
By FCF Staff
After Henry Cejudo secured the flyweight title at UFC 227, he called for a bout with bantamweight champ, TJ Dillashaw. But, it doesn’t look like the latter believes that fight should happen.
Cejudo halted Demetrious Johnson’s historic reign as the flyweight champ, by working his way to a split decision win. For months, there’s been talk about Johnson fighting Dillashaw at some juncture, and now Cejudo’s campaigning for a bout with the bantamweight champ.
When Dillashaw was asked to comment on Cejudos’ callout, however, he had this to say (quote via MMA Junkie):
“I don’t really think the guy would deserve it”
“I mean, Joseph Benavidez just beat him. “Yeah, (Benavidez) lost a split decision to (Sergio) Pettis, but I didn’t agree with that loss. So I think there’s a lot of stuff there, and he’s possibly got a trilogy with (Demetrious Johnson). I’m open to whatever, though. I’m not stepping away from a challenge, that’s for sure.”
Dillashaw stopped Garbrandt in the headliner of UFC 227, which marked the second time he’s defeated his former teammate.
