UFC 228: Darren Till Outlines Plans For Move to 185

Darren Till will challenge Tyron Woodley for the welterweight title this Saturday at UFC 228, but the rising fighter knows his time competing at 170 is coming to a close.

Till has locked up a bout with Woodley, after earning a decision win over perennial contender, Stephen Thompson this past May. The British fighter, however, came in several pounds overweight for the fight, and recently Till had this to say about his future at welterweight (quotes via MMA Fighting):

“I’ve said I want to go to middleweight. It’s just… I see a lot of guys and they’re chasing money fights. They’re winning titles and they’re calling either the higher or the lower category or they’re calling for that super fight,” Till said.

“When I take that belt, I want to defend that belt and then I want to go up to middleweight, but that doesn’t mean that I want to go up and challenge the champion. I would like to earn my stripes in that division too. I feel there are a lot of good guys in that division.”

The champ Woodley, meanwhile, will be fighting for the first time since July, 2017, when he earned a decision win over Demian Maia. UFC 288 will take place in Dallas, Texas.
