UFC 229: Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Conor McGregor – Early Betting Lines Are in For Massive Bout

Following the confirmation that Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor are going to battle at UFC 229, October 6th in Las Vegas, the early betting lines have the latter as the underdog.

On Friday, the UFC announced that the highly anticipated and long discussed bout will headlined UFC 229, which will go down at the T-Mobile Arena. The fight will mark the first time McGregor has competed in the Octagon since November, 2016, when he took out Eddie Alvarez to win the lightweight crown.

Nurmagomedov (26-0), however, secured that title this past April at UFC 223, by earning a decision win over Al Iaquinta. The lightweight belt was stripped from McGregor (21-3) as soon as that bout began, due to the fact he hadn’t fought under MMA rules in nearly two years.

McGregor did compete last August, in a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather, and was stopped by the undefeated, superstar pugilist in round ten.

The Early Betting Line Odds

Well, whether it’s because of McGregor’s break from competition, or because of Nurmagomedov’s undefeated record or vaunted grappling game, the champ’s the favorite according to the early betting lines. Currently McGregor is the underdog in the +120 to +167 range, while Nurmagomedov’s the favorite with odds ranging from -148 to -205.

It will be interesting to see whether these odds change in the coming weeks, and if they narrow, in terms of Nurmagomedov being the sizeable favorite. Although some opponents, like Michael Johnson, have managed to tag Nurmagomedov with some hard shots, the lightweight has dominated nearly all of the ten men he’s faced in the Octagon to date.
