UFC 232: Joe Rogan Weighs-In on Card’s Relocation, Perplexed by Nevada Commission

Jon Jones

By FCF Staff

UFC 232 has been moved from Las Vegas to Los Angeles, following an atypical result for a drug test administered to Jon Jones, and commentator Joe Rogan is baffled by the Nevada Commission’s response.

Jones is scheduled to fight Alexander Gustafsson in the card’s headliner. Recently a  pre-fight drug test showed the presence of the metabolite Jones tested positive for last year. Since the amount is apparently so minuscule, however, it’s been determined by USADA that the metabolite stems from Jones’ case year and that no violation has occurred.

The Nevada Commission has decided to hear more about the recent results in the New Year, and will not license Jones in the interim. So, UFC 232 has been moved to L.A. since the California Commission will grant a license to Jones.

During a recent episode of his podcast, Rogan weighed-in on the incident, and here’s some of what he had to say (quotes via MMA Junkie):

“What the (expletive) are you doing? You’re going to let him fight in California? Let him (expletive) fight in Nevada,” Rogan said. “It’s stupid. It’s stupidity. In this case, it’s stupid. I’m upset. I just wanted this fight to take place without any bull(expletive) behind it. I just want it to be a great fight. It’s an amazing matchup.”

“I don’t understand why they couldn’t just do this in Nevada,” Rogan added. “I guess they’re on vacation or some (expletive). That’s crazy. Figure it out. Let’s make a phone call. Isn’t there one person? One person should say, ‘OK, is it, to the best of your knowledge, absolutely from the original test?’ ‘Yes sir, by all the science, we’ll submit the science, show you the science, tell you the number.’ ‘OK, let him fight.’”

Jones and Gustafsson fought back in 2013, and the latter lost the thrilling fight via decision.
