UFC 234: Anderson Silva Hopes to Deliver a “Rocky Story”
By FCF Staff
Anderson Silva could secure another shot at the UFC’s middleweight championship this Saturday, and after that, the legend’s hoping to deliver fans a “Rocky story”.
The former champ will take on rising star Israel Adesanya in the co-main event of UFC 234, and the winner will advance to face whoever is holding the belt, after Robert Whittaker and Kelvin Gastelum fight that same night.
In a recent story at UFC.com, the 43-year-old Silva had this to say about his title shot prospects and making another championship run.
“First of all, I need to win the fight, so step by step. I believe (UFC President) Dana (White) gave me this opportunity because I was champion for a long, long time. I’m working hard for that (title shot) and I’ll try to prove for all my fans in the world I have a chance to take my belt back.”
“That’s a Rocky movie. Imagine Anderson Silva wins and takes the belts back. Adrian! (Laughs) It’s the Rocky story. But I’m very happy because it’s a challenge. Israel is a great challenge, and I pass this, hopefully I fight for the belt and hopefully it’s a good story and I win and take the belt and drop the mic. It’s done, over, next step.”
Silva will be fighting for the first time this weekend since February, 2017, when he earned a decision win over Derek Brunson.
