UFC 235: Robbie Lawler Talks Strategy For Ben Askren Bout
By FCF Staff
Robbie Lawler is the latest fighter who will attempt to hand Ben Askren his first defeat, but the former welterweight champ sounds confident as he gets set to face the vaunted wrestler.
Lawler will battle Askren at UFC 235, which will take place on March 2nd in Las Vegas. The bout will mark the first time Lawler has fought since December, 2017, when he lost via decision to Rafael dos Anjos.
Recently the UFC held a pre-fight press conference for the upcoming event, and while discussing strategy for his bout with Askren, “Ruthless” said this (quote via MMA Junkie):
“Obviously he’s fought all over the world, wrestled all over the world,” Lawler said. “He’s a competitor, he finds a way to win , so I got to go out there and get after him. My wrestling is all right. I train with a lot of wrestlers, and my coaches are doing a great job with me. My striking is getting better, and I’ve got to just go out there and get in his face and put some hands on him.”
Lawler (28-12, 1 no-contest) has gone 3-2 in his last 5 bouts. Prior to facing dos Anjos, the rugged vet earned a decision win over Donald Cerrone.
