Montel Jackson scored a victory over Andre Soukhamthath at UFC 236 this weekend, and afterward, the rising bantamweight praised his opponent’s fighting spirit.

Jackson faced Soukhamthath on the event’s prelim card, and the 26-year-old worked his way to a clear cut, decision victory via scores of 29-27, 30-26, and 30-27. According to the UFC’s official stats, Jackson landed 64 significant strikes to Soukhamthath’s 30, and he also scored three takedowns to the latter’s one.

After the bout, however, Jackson praised the toughness and determination Soukhamthath showcased in the fight (quotes via MMA Junkie):

“That was my goal to put this guy away, to finish this guy,” Jackson said. “Hats off to the guy. He took a lot of hard hits, he played chicken with the Mack truck. Hat’s off to that guy.”

“I just want to continue to rack up some more wins,” Jackson said. “Gain some more octagon experience, so I’m just looking forward to that.”

With the win, Jackson moved his record to 8-1.  Soukhamathath’s fell to 13-7 with the defeat.
