It was clear last night that plenty of fans weren’t happy with how the Donald Cerrone – Tony Ferguson fight ended, but the latter believes he was en route to a victory without the doctor stoppage.

Ferguson bloodied Cerrone in round two with various punches, and he also landed a shot after the round’s final horn. Then, before round three was set to begin, Cerrone made the mistake of blowing his nose and his right eye swelled completely shut. The cage side doctor ruled that Cerrone could not continue into round three, and more boos rang out.

While discussing the fight’s stoppage after the event, Ferguson said this (quote via MMA Fighting):

“Going into the third round, I don’t think it would have been any different,” Ferguson said. “I was going to pick him apart with jabs, I was going to hit him to the body. Literally I just saw his nose go from red to clear from red to clear from all the shots.

“It was a good fight. I’m excited about the outcome.”

Following the event, UFC President Dana White also reported that Cerrone had incurred a broken orbital bone in the contest. With the win, Ferguson moved his winning streak to 12 and his overall record to 25-3.
