UFC 242: Dana White Confirms Tony Ferguson Will be Offered Title Shot Next

By FCF Staff

After winning 12 straight fights, and the UFC’s interim lightweight title during that time, Tony Ferguson will indeed be asked to face the winner of Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Dustin Poirier.

In recent weeks there’s been extensive speculation about who will challenge for the 155 title, after Nurmagomedov and Poirier fight at UFC 242 tomorow. Since Conor McGregor remains a massive star, some have argued that the UFC might award the former champ another shot at the lightweight belt.

But, while speaking to ESPN recently, UFC President Dana White said this (quotes via MMA Fighting):

“Listen, again, if Tony Ferguson’s ready,” White said. “Tony Ferguson’s been offered opportunities before that he hasn’t taken. If Tony’s ready then yeah [he’s next].”

The 35-year-old Ferguson (25-3) is coming off a TKO win (via doctor stoppage) over Donald Cerrone in June.
