UFC 244: Kevin Lee Says Gregor Gillespie Will be His “Toughest Fight”
By FCF Staff
Kevin Lee has faced top-tier contenders and former champs like Tony Ferguson, Rafael dos Anjos and Edson Barboza during his UFC run. But recently the lightweight reported he believes Gregor Gillespie will be his toughest fight yet.
Lee has been booked to fight the decorated wrestler at UFC 244, which will take place on Saturday at Madison Square Garden in New York City. While talking about the match-up recently, Lee said this (quote via MMA Junkie):
“Hands down, this is the most dangerous fight I’ve ever taken in my life,” Lee said. “It’s a guy who’s really dangerous. A lot of guys on the inside know he’s got a legit shot to even beat Khabib (Nurmagomedov) or anybody else in this weight class.
“He’s the most decorated wrestler. Dude would be in the Olympics if it wasn’t for Jordan Burroughs. Fighting somebody like this who not a lot of people know which makes him even more dangerous is going to be tough. I’ve prepared 100 percent for this. I already know this is going to be the toughest fight I’ve had.”
Gillespie has gone 13-0 to date in pro-MMA and he’s coming off a quick, stoppage win over Yancy Medeiros in January.
Lee (17-5) is looking to get back on track, however, after being submitted by dos Anjos in a welterweight fight this past May.
