Recently it was announced that Stephen Thompson will battle Vicente Luque at UFC 244, and it looks like “Wonderboy” won’t be looking past the surging welterweight.

Heading into the upcoming fight, Luque (17-6-1) is riding a six-fight winning streak, and most recently he recorded a split decision win over Mike Perry. Thompson appeared on “Fight Talk” recently, and while discussing Luque, the dynamic striker said this (quotes via MMA Junkie):

“I’m facing a tough dude,” Thompson said about the 27-yaer-old Luque. “He’s very tough, and you can’t underestimate this guy. I think he’s ranked 14 or 15 but he’s on a six-fight winning streak.”

“That fight against Mike Perry that he just had, literally it was a brawl between those two,” Thompson said. “The guy is durable, he’s tough, he’s got a good, strong kickboxing background, but I’m ready.”

The 36-year-old Thompson (14-4-1), who is coming off a knockout loss to Anthony Pettis in March, reported that initially, he hoped to land a fight with Rafael dos Anjos next.
