Jon Jones says he could have elected to fight Corey Anderson next. But, according to the light-heavyweight champ, he decided to fight Dominick Reyes since the rising fighter poses a more serious threat.

Jones is booked to fight Reyes this Saturday at UFC 247, which will take place in Houston, Texas. Reyes (12-0) has been tapped for the opportunity after going 6-0 to date in the UFC, and following a KO win over Chris Weidman.

While speaking to the media recently about this Saturday’s match-up, Jones said this (quotes via MMA Junkie):

“It’s a great fight for me, just because he’s undefeated and he’s the toughest guy out here right now,” Jones said. “We had the choice of whether we were going to fight Corey Anderson or Dominick Reyes. That was the conversation I had with the UFC, and I chose Dominick Reyes because me and my coaches watched Corey fight and watched Dominick and we saw that Dominick was finishing people.

“I like this guy. I like Corey Anderson, and he can grind out a 25-minute fight and match my cardio. But Corey Anderson doesn’t really finish people like that. Dominick can finish people, which is way more of a challenge, way more scary of a fight. And that’s exactly why I did it.”

Anderson (13-4) is coming off a first round, stoppage win over Johnny Walker in November, who had won nine straight before facing the noted wrestler.
