UFC 248: Edmen Shahbazyan Weighs-in on Derek Bruson Bout, Title Shot Implications
By FCF Staff
After winning his first four, UFC bouts, Edmen Shahbazyan believes a win at UFC 248 could move him into the title shot mix.
Following his first round, knockout win over Brad Tavares in November, Shahbazyan has been booked to fight fellow middleweight contender, Derek Brunson. While speaking with MMA Junkie recently, Shahbazyan (11-0) had this to say about the match-up and what he thinks a victory could deliver.
“I think it’s a great matchup,” Shahbazyan said. “I know he’s a veteran of the sport and he’s been a top contender fighting for a while, but I look forward to going out there and performing amazingly.”
“I just turned 22. I’m improving every single day, and I love doing this,” Shahbazyan said. “With a win over him, it puts me in a great spot in the division to soon fight for a title. I want to be the champ, and I’m going to do whatever it takes to get there one step at a time.”
As it stands right now, Shahbazyan is ranked #9 in the 185 division and Brunson (20-7) is #8. UFC 248 will take place on March 7th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
