Israel Adesanya got by Yoel Romero on Saturday night and is still the UFC’s middleweight champ, but Paulo Costa was far from impressed with his performance.

Adesanya faced the powerful wrestler in the headliner of UFC 248, but the fight featured very few exchanges and was booed at multiple juncture. After 25 minutes, Adesanya retained the 185 title via unanimous decision.

Costa was in attendance at the event, since he is expected to challenge for the title next. While talking to the media afterward, the undefeated Brazilian had this to say about Adesanya and his performance (quote via MMA Fighting).

“Horrible fight, Costa said. “I was ashamed to watch that fight. Adesanya is nothing. Adesanya is the most shameful champion I have seen ever. He just run. He’s nothing. He’s nothing. He’s scared. I think he doesn’t deserve to talk about him. But it was s*it, that fight was s*it.

“I will make him cry. I will hit him very badly. And he will cry like a baby. I will slap his face in my fight against him because—That’s it, he’s shameful.”

“…I don’t blame Romero,” Costa said. “Romero’s the same against everybody. He never put 100 percent of pressure. He’s a little bit lazy and sometimes he explodes.”

The 28-year-old Costa (13-0) faced Romero in August and won via unanimous decision, but due to a bicep injury he was unable to face Adesanya next.
