Just days removed from the UFC’s announcement that it’s April 18th card was proceeding, the promotion’s announced that UFC 249 and other upcoming events have been postponed.

On Thursday, the UFC released the following statement regarding UFC 249 and it’s upcoming schedule (statement via MMA Fighting).

“While the organization was fully prepared to proceed with UFC 249, ESPN has requested the postponement of the event and subsequent bouts until further notice in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. The UFC looks forward to resuming the full live events schedule as soon as possible.”

Recently it was reported that UFC 249 would take place at the Tachi Palace Resort and Casino, which is located on tribal land in California. The California State Athletic Commission announced it would not oversee the card, however, and various officials also called on the UFC to not host an event in the state.

UFC President Dana White has also reported that the promotion has secured a private island that can host events in the future. Following news of UFC 249’s postponement, White told ESPN that plans to hold fights on the island are still moving forward.
