UFC 272 to feature two title bouts

According to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, UFC president Dana White informed him that two title bouts are set to headline UFC 272, which is scheduled for March 5th in Las Vegas.
Those title bouts are the highly anticipated trilogy between current featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway. While the second title bout will feature Aljamain Sterling and Petr Yan going at it for a second time in a unification bout for the bantamweight title.
No contracts have been signed. However, according to the report, the fights should be “finalized shortly”.
Both Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway are coming victorious from fight of the year performances in their recent bouts. Volkanovski beating Brian Ortega via unanimous decision back in September, while Holloway is coming from a unanimous decision victory against Yair Rodriguez in November. It has been over a year since Volkanovski and Holloway last stepped into the cage together, where Volkanovski beat Holloway via a close unanimous decision.
In the bantamweight title bout, Aljamain Sterling is looking to defend his bantamweight title for the first time since winning it against Petr Yan back in March of 2021, where he won via disqualification due to Yan throwing an illegal knee. Since then, Sterling underwent neck surgery and has been recovering ever since their first bout.
Yan on the other hand, beat Cory Sandhagen for the interim bantamweight title back in October at UFC 267 in Abu Dhabi.
