Lewis Pulverized
Couture Crowned Champ

In an exciting night of fights in front of an almost capacity crowd, New Jersey witnessed its first UFC event live.

In the first bout of the main card, "The Pulverizer" Jens Pulver shocked the crowd by knocking out seasoned NHB veteran John Lewis in the opening exchange of the fight, once again proving why they call him "The Pulverizer". UFC matchmaker John Perretti was impressed and commented right after the fight that it may be the fastest knockout in UFC history.

Randy Couture
Mystery man Andrei Orlovskiy showed some impressive submission skills as he easily defeated Aaron Brink with an arm-bar in the first round.

Another big match this evening pit Super-heavyweights Gan McGee and Josh Barnett against each other. McGee looked impressive in the first round by taking Barnett to the mat and landing some heavy strikes. Barnett bided his time and opened up in the second round finishing off the giant McGee with strikes that led to a referee stoppage.

"The Natural" Randy Couture, returning to the Octagon after having been stripped of his heavyweight title a couple of years ago, took out Kevin Randleman in a very exciting final match of the night. Kevin was on top and controlling the fight in the first couple of rounds, but Randy came back, taking Randleman down and punishing him with strikes from above. Referee John McCarthy stepped in and stopped the match, and "The Natural" was once again crowned UFC Heavyweight Champion.

UFC 28 Last Minute Preparations

UFC weigh-ins, normally held the day before the event, were held today due to New Jersey State mandates. Athletic Control Board Chairman Larry Hazzard said that this requirement is in effect to ensure that fighters come into the ring at the proper weight. This left a few fighters scrambling to make weight on the day of their fights. John Lewis, Chuck Liddell and Jeff Monson could be seen jogging in the hall outside of the UFC Boardroom in a last-minte effort to make weight. Tonight’s UFC, being held in the Mark G. Etess Arena in the Taj Mahal Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, is almost sold out.

Here is the scheduled line-up for tonight’s line-up:

Preliminary Fights (Probably not televised)
Ben Earwood (169) Vs. Chris Lytle (167)
Mark Hughes (184) Vs. Alex Steibling (188)
Main Card
Jens Pulver (155) Vs. John Lewis (155)
Andrei Orlovskiy (239) Vs. Aaron Brink (231)
Josh Barnett (257) Vs. Gan McGee (296)
Chuck Liddell Vs. Jeff Monson
Renato Babalu (225) Vs. Maurice Smith (225)
Kevin Randleman (214) Vs. Randy Couture (220)
