UFC 296 has lost a compelling match-up, as the welterweight fight between rising star Ian Machado Garry and contender Vicente Luque has been canceled.

The two were scheduled to fight on Saturday’s main card. But, recently UFC President Dana White confirmed that Garry has pneumonia and will not be competing as a result.

The 26-year-old Garry (13-0) has been rising the UFC’s welterweight ranks on account of a 6-0 record in the Octagon to date. In his last outing, this past August, he recorded a unanimous decision win over Neil Magny.

Luque (22-9-1) is coming off a unanimous decision win over Rafael dos Anjos in August. The 32-year-old has gone 3-2 in his last five fights.

UFC 296 will be headlined by a welterweight fight between champion Leon Edwards and Colby Covington. The card will be hosted by the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
