By FCF Staff
Dustin Poirier came up short once again in his bid to secure the UFC’s undisputed lightweight title. But, the star pushed the champ Islam Makhachev in a thrilling headliner for UFC 302.
Makhachev’s wrestling and top game played a key role earlier in the fight. But, Poirier battled through the positions and as the fight continued, he defended more takedown attempts. Makhachev also had success on his feet, but in round four, he was cut badly by an elbow from Poirier.
In round five, as Poirier continued to press forward, Makhachev ensnared the challenger with a D’arce choke. Poirier was forced to tap to the tight choke, right before he appeared to temporarily, lose consciousness.
