UFC 303: Conor McGregor Off Card, Alex Pereira vs. Jiri Prochazka 2 New Main Event
By FCF Staff
Following recent, extensive, speculation as to whether Conor McGregor would still be competing at UFC 303 later this month, the promotion has announced the former champ will not.
McGregor was scheduled to fight Michael Chandler at the June 29th card. But, after a press conference in Dublin, Ireland was cancelled earlier this month, which McGregor was supposed to attend, rumors began to swirl about the future of the fight.
On Thursday, UFC President Dana White announced via social media that McGregor has withdrawn from the card due to injury. As a result, light heavyweight champ Alex Pereira will now face former champ, Jiri Prochazka in the card’s new headliner.
Pereira stopped Prochakza last November to lay claim to the vacant title.
Two other changes to the card were also announced. Jamahal Hill has been forced out of a bout with Carlos Ulberg due to a knee injury. Anthony Smith has agreed to fight Ulberg at the event.
In addition, a fight between rising featherweight Diego Lopes and long-time contender, Brian Ortega, has also been booked for the event.
UFC 303 will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
