Not only did Khamzat Chimaev take the middleweight title from Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 319 in one-sided fashion, he destroyed a pre-fight narrative in the process.

Leading up to Saturday’s card, many observers questioned whether Chimaev would be able to sustain his relentless, wrestling approach throughout five rounds. But, in the headliner, Chimaev took Du Plessis down 12 times and dominated the South African from the top position for almost the entire fight.

Chimaev was ultimately awarded the fight by scores of 50-44 across the board. With the win, the Chechen fighter moved his record to 15 and 0. Du Plessis now carries a record of 23-3.

In the co-headliner, Lerone Murphy (17-0) viciously spoiled the UFC debut of Aaron Pico (13-5), by knocking out the featherweight with a spinning elbow in round one.
