UFC 5N 57: Frankie Edgar Makes Case for Title Shot Following Impressive Win

Frankie Edgar

By FCF Staff

Due to Frankie Edgar’s masterful performance last night at UFC FN 57, the pre-fight talk of who deserves a title shot more, Cub Swanson or Conor McGregor, has been completely destroyed.

Edgar dominated Swanson for much of their headline bout last night in Austin, before tapping the renowned featherweight out with a late, fifth round neck crank. As a result of his performance, the former lightweight champ is calling for a rematch with the champ, Jose Aldo.

While speaking to FOX Sport 1 after his latest victory, here is some of what Edgar had to say about his title shot prospects (quote via MMA Fighting.com):

“This had a little more implications just because that title shot’s looming, and certain people were promised it,” Edgar said. “I just beat the guy who was promised it, so I’m hoping I take that spot.

“Based on what Cub has done in his past six or seven fights, the tear he’s been on, and being able to go out there and finish him — I would’ve loved to have done it a little quicker — but I think I’ve done enough. Based on everything else I’ve done in my career, I think I’m that guy.”

Swanson had won six straight bouts heading into UFC FN 57, and had score stoppage wins in four of them.

McGregor is scheduled to fight Dennis Siver on January 18th, and will also be in the title shot running provided he wins.
