UFC 189 has been handed another pivotal, welterweight fight, as the promotion has confirmed that Jake Ellenberger will take on Stephen Thompson at the event.

The July 11th card will be hosted by the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, and the event will also see welterweight champ Robbie Lawler face Rory MacDonald.

Ellenberger (30-9) will be looking to build on the submission win he recorded versus Josh Koscheck in February, which ended the vet’s three fight losing streak. “The Juggernaut” is ranked #9 in the promotion’s 170 division.

Thompson (10-1), who was sidelined earlier this year with an injury, has won fours straight bouts. Most recently, the noted striker decisioned Patrick Cote in September.

UFC 189 will be headlined by a featherweight fight between champion Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor.
