By FCF Staff

The Ultimate Fighting Championship has added another of Japan’s top stars to its ranks, as today the promotion announced via Twitter that it has signed former Sengoku featherweight champ Hatsu Hioki to a contract. The following statement was posted on the official UFC Twitter account today:

FYI – guard-smashing savant Hatsu Hioki, a top-ranked featherweight, has been signed to the UFC roster. Welcome!

No further information regarding when Hioki will make his Octagon debut or who he might face was given.

Widely regarded to be one of the world’s top featherweight fighters, Hioki (24-4-2) arrives in the UFC having only been defeated twice in his last fifteen fights.

The 27 year-old-veteran has defeated a long list of notable competitors during his near decade long career, including Mark Hominick (twice), Jeff Curran, Rumina Sato, Takeshi Inoue, Masanori Kanehara, and Marlon Sandro.

The only competitors to defeat Hioki in the last five years have been Antonio Carvalho, Jong Man Kim and Michihiro Omigawa.

Most recently at a Shooto event in April, the promotion’s former champion submitted Donald Sanchez with a second round, triangle-choke.
