Santiago Ponzinibbio took another step towards a title shot on Saturday, by knocking out Neil Magny at UFC Argentina. But Ponzinibbio is claiming that champion Tyron Woodley is afraid to face the surging welterweight.

After Ponzinibbio took out Magny in the fourth round of the main event, he called for a fight with Woodley. The champ, however, responded by telling Ponzinibbio he needs to keeping winning and noted there are other fighters ahead of him the ranks.

When Ponzinibbio was asked to respond to Woodley’s comments, the Argentinean fighter said this (quote via MMA Junkie):

“I understand why he says that,” Ponzinibbio said. “He wants to hold on to his title as long as possible.

“He knows that if he does fight me, I’m going to knock him out and take it, so he wants to keep extending his reign for as long as he can. That’s why he keeps saying I have a long way to go.”

With the win yesterday, Ponzinibbio moved his winning streak to 7 and his overall record to 27-3.
