UFC Columbus: Francis Ngannou “Doesn’t Know What to Think Anymore” About HW Title Shot Picture

Francis Ngannou has repeatedly said he deserves to be fighting for the UFC’s heavyweight title once again. But, as the feared slugger gets set to face Jairzinho Rozenstruik next month, he’s not even sure what’s going on with the UFC’s heavyweight belt.

After Ngannou quickly took out Junior dos Santos in June, which was his third straight, quick stoppage victory, “The Predator” campaigned for another title shot. Since Miocic avenged his 2018 loss to Cormier last August, the UFC is planning to book a rubber match between the two. As Ngannou sat on the sidelines, he eventually started calling for any fight, and was eventually booked to face Rozenstruik.

In the meantime, Miocic – Cormier III has yet to be finalized, which prompted Ngannou to recently tell MMA Junkie this:

“Honestly about that, I don’t even know what to think anymore,” Ngannou said. “We can speculate, like assume whatever we want to, but only the UFC knows what happened and when would that happen. I mean, I’m not surprised, the only thing is, it’s kind of bizarre to be in a division that the title is not running. The title is stopped, so we don’t even know if it’s going to happen or when. Maybe in six months, in one year, or when.”

“…In the right world, title shot should not be something that has to be guaranteed,” Ngannou said. “It will just be something if the athlete deserves it. If he puts himself in the spot for it, then he gets it.”

The current champ Miocic faced Ngannou in January, 2018, and worked his way to a decision win. Ngannou – Rozenstruik will headline UFC Columbus, which will take place in the Ohio city on March 28th.
