UFC Confirms Return of BJ Penn, Will Fight Rory MacDonald at UFC 152

Penn

By FCF Staff

After Rory MacDonald and BJ Penn recently announced that they were both interested in fighting the other, the Ultimate Fighting Championship has confirmed that the two will meet later this year on September 22nd.

The news comes after months of speculation as to whether Penn (16-8) would fight again, after the decorated fighter lost by unanimous decision to Nick Diaz in October, and announced that his fighting career was likely done.

The 33 year-old Penn is 1-3-1 in his last five bouts, with additional losses coming to Frankie Edgar during that stretch, and a knockout victory coming over Matt Hughes. Last February, the former lightweight and welterweight champ battled Jon Fitch to a draw at UFC 127.

After being stopped by current welterweight interim champ Carlos Condit in June, 2010, MacDonald (13-1) has continued his compelling rise by scoring wins over Nate Diaz, Mike Pyle and most recently Che Mills.

The 22 year-old Tristar fighter has gone 4-1 since he signed with the UFC.

The Penn, MacDonald fight will be part of the UFC 152 card, which will take place in Toronto, Ontario.
