Rory MacDonald made a convincing case for a title shot at UFC Fight Night 54, and following his stoppage win over Tarec Saffiedine, Dana White has confirmed the welterweight will receive just that.

MacDonald put away the former Strikeforce champ in the third round on Saturday, and in doing so, ensured he remained the UFC’s #2 ranked welterweight. In a follow up story with the Canadian Press, White relayed that it’s “impossible to deny” that MacDonald is the “next guy in line.”

Reigning champion  Johny Hendricks is set to rematch Robbie Lawler at UFC 181 on December 6th, and then the winner of that fight will face MacDonald in 2015.

White also confirmed that MacDonald’s title shot will take place in Canada, but did not say when.  The UFC is expected to hold an event in Montreal next March, which is home to MacDonald’s home gym, Tristar.

MacDonald is currently riding a three fight win streak since he lost via split decision to Lawler in November, 2013.
