Stephen Thompson has been assigned the task of halting Darren Till’s rise up the welterweight ranks, and if he does so, what could it mean for the UFC’s #1 ranked welterweight?

Thompson is expected to fight Till today at UFC FN 130, provided the latter weighs in at 188 pounds, 1 PM local time. The bout is taking place two weeks before Rafael dos Anjos and Colby Covington fight for the interim welterweight title at UFC 225.

Recently Thompson had this to say about what could materialize for him, provided he defeats Till (quote via UFC.com):

“I think it really depends on A) how I go out there and defeat Darren Till and B) who fights Tyron next,” said Thompson, who fought champion Tyron Woodley to a draw, before losing their rematch by decision. “You’ve got the interim title coming up between RDA and Colby Covington and I think whoever wins that, if they beat Tyron Woodley, then I’ll get that next shot. If Tyron wins, I think I may have to fight one more time in order to seal that deal for that next shot again.”

In Thompson’s last bout, this past November, he earned a decision win over Jorge Masvidal. UFC FN 130 will take place in Liverpool, England.
