Tarec Saffiedine finally made his UFC debut today in Singapore, and despite a determined effort from Hyun Gyu Lim, the former Strikeforce welterweight champ emerged with a decision win.

As expected, Lim came out firing early on, but Saffiedine defended well and began battering the South Korean’s lead leg with kicks. Despite being dropped on several occasions from leg kicks and knees, Lim continued to battle and even stunned Saffiedine as the fight neared its end.

After the bout, Saffiedine was awarded the unanimous decision win to extend the Belgian fighter’s win streak to five.

In the co-main-event, Japanese star Tatsuya Kawajiri choked out a very game Sean Soriano, in what was the featherweight’s UFC debuts.

Early on, Kawajiri had difficulties taking Soriano to the mat and keeping the American there, but finished round one with a flurry of strikes from the top position. In the second frame, however, Kawajiri quickly took Soriano to the canvas and rendered him unconscious with a rear-naked-choke.
