UFC FN 39’s Roy Nelson Says he Has Advantage Over “Minotauro” Standing: “I Hit Harder”

Roy 'Big Country' Nelson

Roy Nelson will be looking to end a two fight losing streak when he battles Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC Fight Night 39, and it sounds like the heavyweight believes striking is the way to do it.

Nelson, who is coming off decision losses to Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier, appeared on the latest edition of “UFC Tonight” to discuss the April 11th bout. When asked if he has the advantage standing versus “Minotauro”, Nelson (19-9) stated:

“I hit harder, so I always have an advantage. Look at Dan “Hendo.”

When asked to assess who has the edge on the ground, however, the charismatic fighter gave the nod to Nogueira.

“Advantage-wise? Back in the day, I’d say I was an excellent jiu-jitsu guy, but I’m old. I give him the advantage there, because he’s the legend.”

Nogueira (34-8-1) will be competing for the first time since last June, when he was submitted by Fabricio Werdum at UFC on FUEL TV 10. Prior to the loss the former interim champ tapped out Dave Herman at UFC 153 in 2012.

UFC FN 39 will take place in Abu Dhabi and will be broadcast throughout North America on FOX Sports 1 and Sportsnet.
