UFC FN 42: Patrick Cummins on the Hunt for a “Little Redemption”

Although Patrick Cummins is a highly touted prospect, and the ZUFFA marketing machine did it’s best to inform people of that fact, the light-heavyweight was quickly taken out by Daniel Cormier in his UFC debut.

Now, as Cummins approaches his second fight with the promotion at UFC Fight Night 42, the experienced wrestler is hoping to provide fans a different perspective on his abilities. While speaking to UFC.com recently, here is some of what Cummins had to say about his loss to Cormier, and his fight this Saturday with Roger Narvaez.

“It was a tough task and a tall order, but I think a lot of people believed the same way I did, that no matter what, I can come out on top,” Cummins said. “That was being said by my fans. The other side of the equation is the people saying ‘you’ve got no business being in there.’ Some people will understand, but there will always those people out there that won’t, and the only way to really solve that is to go out and do what I know I can do. This next fight is a great opportunity to do just that and I’m looking forward to it. I need a little redemption for myself and to show what I can do to the other people that think I had no business being in there.”

Cummins (4-1) had won four straight before he stepped in on short notice to face Cormier in February.

Narvaez (6-0) hasn’t fought since September when he earned a split decision win over Hayward Charles while competing for Legacy FC.

UFC FN 42 will be hosted by Albuquerque’s Tingley Coliseum.
