UFC FN 50: Alistair Overeem to Fight Ben Rothwell

UFC heavyweight Alistair Overeem

By FCF Staff

On the same day the UFC announced that the fight between Gegard Mousasi and “Jacare” Souza was moving to September 5th, the promotion has confirmed Alistair Overeem will battle Ben Rothwell at the event.

UFC FN 50 will be hosted Foxwoods Resort Casino in Ledyard, Connecticut.

Overeem (37-13) hasn’t fought since February, when he scored a unanimous decision win over Frank Mir. The victory returned the decorated fighter to the winning track, after he was stopped by Travis Browne and Antonio Silva in back-to-back fights.

Rothwell (33-9), meanwhile, will be fighting for the first time since last August, when he stopped Brandon Vera. The heavyweight tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone following the event, however, and received a nine month suspension.

Prior to facing Vera, Rothwell was submitted by Gabriel Gonzaga in January, 2013.
