Although Matt Dwyer suffered a quick, knockout defeat in his UFC debut, the welterweight’s confidence hasn’t been diminished, heading into his second fight with the promotion.

Dwyer is booked to fight William Macario at UFC Fight Night 61 this Sunday, which will mark the first time he’s fought since October. At UFC FN 54, Dwyer made his Octagon debut versus Albert Tumenov, but was floored with a head kick shortly into the contest.

The 25 year-old Canadian recently spoke to UFC.com about this Sunday’s bout, and the devastating loss, and here is some of what Dwyer had to say:

“I’ve had a tough loss before and I’ve always come back better,” Dwyer said. “Even though my last fight wasn’t that long of a fight I still learned a lot in the way I carried myself in the lead-up to the fight. I know what to expect now. With that being my first time in the UFC, my head was up in the clouds. I didn’t really know what to expect when I got to the venue. But now I believe I’m far more prepared for fighting on the big stage.”

Dwyer (7-2) was signed by the UFC after he stopped DaMarques Johnson at a Battlefield Fight League event in May, 2014.

UFC FN 61 will take place in Porto Alegre, Brazil, and will feature Antonio Silva taking on Frank Mir in the headliner.
