UFC FN 66: Gegard Mousasi Believes he Has The “Advantage Everywhere” Over “Heavy Handed” Costas Philippou
By FCF Staff
At UFC Fight Night 66 tomorrow, Gegard Mousasi will be looking to defeat another, well documented stopper in Costas Philippou.
Mousasi was booked to fight the middleweight contender, following his first round, stoppage win over the always dangerous Dan Henderson in January. With the win, Mousasi returned to the win column, after he was submitted by “Jacare” Souza last September.
Recently the 29 year-old Mousasi (36-5-2) spoke to UFC.com about Saturday’s fight, and here is what the former Strikeforce champ had to say about Philippou.
“[Philippou] is a heavy-handed guy with good stand-up and knockout power,” Mousasi said. “I have to be careful in the exchanges but I believe I have the advantage everywhere this fight could go. I believe I can do anything I want in there and that is going to show on fight night. I am very good at spacing and closing the distance. I believe that will be a problem for him.”
Philippou (13-4) is coming off a first round, knockout win over Lorenz Larkin last May, after he was defeated by Luke Rockhold and Francis Carmont in consecutive fights.
UFC FN 66 will take place in Manila, Philippines, and will feature a featherweight bout between Frankie Edgar and Urijah Faber.
