UFC Nashville: Stephen Thompson Comments on First KO Loss of Career
By FCF Staff
After competing in over 50 kickboxing matches and nearly 20 MMA fights, Stephen Thompson has finally been knocked out.
Thompson faced Anthony Pettis in the headliner of UFC Nashville last night. Thompson appeared to be getting the better of Pettis during the fight, but late in round two, “Showtime” sent him crashing to the deck with a vicious, Superman punch.
After the loss, Thompson had this to say in a video he shared out via Facebook (quotes via MMA Junkie):
“After 80 fights I’ve never been KO’d – this time by a small guy,” Thompson said. “I can’t believe he got me with the Superman punch. Golly. Superman off the cage. It was so ninja I didn’t even see it coming.”
“I was piecing him up with the jab,” Thompson said. “I was trying to break his arms with the roundhouse kick. I guess the side kicks, I switched over too much. His punches were slow. The heck? I don’t remember anything. Next thing I knew I was in the back wondering what happened.”
Thompson was fighting for the first time since May, 2017, when he lost via decision to Darren Till.
