The UFC’s plan was to have a new, flyweight champ following the promotion’s card in Norfolk. But, Deiveson Figueiredo prevented that from happening by stopping perennial contender, Joseph Benavidez in round two.

Both flyweights came out firing big punches in round one, and after Figueiredo threatened with an armbar, he proceeded to defend a couple of takedown attempts.

After the fighters clashed heads in round two, which opened a large cut over the left eye of Benavidez, Figueiredo floored him with a huge right. Not long after, the fight was stopped.

Since Figueiredo came in overweight for the title fight on Friday, however, he was ineligible to win the flyweight title.
