“Jacare” Souza will complete his current UFC contract this Saturday at UFC on FOX 24, but the middleweight’s reporting he’s very close to signing a new deal with the promotion.

Recently Souza’s manager, Gilberto Faria, reported that the fighter will enter free agency, after he faces Robert Whittaker on Saturday. Faria relayed they are hoping to resign with the UFC, and Souza recently had this to say about the situation (quote via MMA Fighting):

“It’s pretty close, we’re working the numbers,” Souza said. “We’re very, very close to signing a deal, very close to what they’re asking for.”

The Brazilian star also had this to say about middleweight champ, Michael Bisping:

“I’m ready for a challenge, and I cannot sit in my home and wait for Bisping, because Bisping is a disaster for the middleweight division,” Souza said through his interpreter. “Right now we need fights, me, Romero, Luke [Rockhold], [Gegard] Mousasi, we need to stay in the Octagon, is the best. Because Bisping, he don’t want to fight. He don’t want to fight any tough opponent. He’s afraid.”

Since Souza moved to the UFC, the renowned fighter has gone 7-1. UFC on FOX 24 will take place in Kansas City, Missouri.
