UFC on FOX 30: Dustin Poirier Leaves Door Open to Tony Ferguson Bout
By FCF Staff
Dustin Poirier has made it clear he believes he deserves to fight for the UFC’s lightweight title next. But, following his memorable, victory over Eddie Alvarez at UFC on FOX 30 last night, Poirier’s left the door open to a bout with Tony Ferguson.
Poirier finished the former champ in the second round of Saturday’s headliner, and in doing so, moved his winning streak to three. After the victory Poirier repeated his desire for a title shot. But, when asked about the possibility of fighting Ferguson, since Conor McGregor is expected to face champion Khabib Nurmagmoedov next, Poirier said this (quote via MMA Weekly):
“It’s too soon to tell,” Poirier said about fighting Ferguson. “If Dana [White] calls me and we make a deal for the fight, maybe. I don’t know. I’m the best in the world. I can beat all these guys.”
Ferguson has won 10 straight fights and was the interim lightweight champ, until the UFC decided to nullify the title, when Nurmagomedov faced Al Iaquinta at UFC 223 for the world championship.
