Fabricio Werdum avenged his 2006, decision loss to Antonio “Minotauro” Nogueira tonight in Fortaleza, Brazil, by submitting the legendary heavyweight in round two.

After an opening round which was dominated by clinch work and an excellent display of jiu-jitsu on the mat, Nogueira appeared to be the fresher of the two men. The former PRIDE champ came out aggressively once again, but after defending a guillotine choke attempt, Werdum managed to pass Nogueira’s guard. Not long after, the renowned jiu-jitsu competitor had worked his way onto Nogueira’s arm, and the BJJ black belt was forced to verbally submit to an armbar.

With the win, Werdum has won three straight and is likely in the title shot mix. The defeat was Nogueira’s second in three bouts.
