UFC Rankings Update: “Jacare” Souza Closes in on #1 Contender Spot
By FCF Staff
Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza continued to roll through the UFC opposition on Friday night, and the middleweight has seen his ranking improve as a result.
Souza scored an impressive, submission win over veteran Gegard Mousasi at UFC Fight Night 50, and following the event, he’s been moved into the #2 ranking spot.
Souza’s Brazilian countryman, Lyoto Machida, dropped two positions and is now #4. The #3 ranked Vitor Belfort is set to fight champion Chris Weidman on December 6th.
Ben Rothwell also recorded a big win at UFC FN 50, as the heavyweight took out Alistair Overeem in the opening round. The victory has catapulted Rothwell into the top 15 rankings at #9.
The veteran fighter was not ranked heading into the event.
Recently signed Eddie Alvarez has also made his first appearance in the rankings, as the former Bellator champ is now ranked #14 in the lightweight division.
The UFC rankings are determined by a media panel following each event.
