UFC Rankings Update: Rick Story Jumps up Standings After Handing Gunnar Nelson First Loss

Rick Story

By FCF Staff

Rick Story became the first man on Saturday to hand Gunnar Nelson a defeat, and in doing so, the punishing welterweight has moved into the UFC’s top 15 rankings.

The promotion has released its rankings, following two Fight Night cards this weekend, and Story is holding the #12 ranking at 170 pounds. Nelson has slipped two positions and is now sitting at #14.

Story worked his way to a split decision win over Nelson at UFC Fight Night 53, who had won 13 straight bouts heading into the October 4th card. Story was coming off a submission win over Leonardo Mafra Texeira, prior to the event, and now holds a record of 18-8.

Dennis Siver has also benefited from his victory in Stockholm, Sweden, as following his UD victory over Charles Rosa, he’s moved into the #10 featherweight ranking. Jeremy Stephens dropped one slot and is now ranked #11.

In addition, middleweight champ Chris Weidman has moved into the promotion’s #4, pound-for-pound ranking, while heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez has slid into the #5 position.

The UFC’s rankings are voted on by a panel of media members following each of the promotion’s events.
