UFC Sacramento: Josh Emmett Says Mirsad Bektic’s “Never Fought Anyone Like Me”

Mirsad Bektic has worked his way into the top 15 of the UFC’s featherweight rankings, but Josh Emmett says the rising fighter’s in for a new challenge tonight.

The 34-year-old Emmett will face the 28-year-old Bektic tonight at UFC Sacramento, in what will be the latter’s 8th fight with the promotion. Aside from a KO loss to Darren Elkins in 2017, Bektic has gone undefeated in all of his other Octagon appearances.

Well, in advance of their bout tonight, Emmett (14-2) had this to say about Bektic (13-1) and what could unfold in their bout (quotes via MMA Junkie):

“He’s a tough opponent,” Emmett said. “I think we’re really evenly matched. I don’t see a lot of holes in his game, but the one thing that separates us is he’s usually the hammer, and he will not bully me. He won’t be the hammer in this fight. He’s never fought anyone like me, either. As soon as I hit him, he’s going to know he’s in for a fight. That’s if he doesn’t go down.”

“If you see my UFC fights, people would just think I’m a boxer, but I come from wrestling,” Emmett said. “I’ve wrestled at the highest level, too. I’ve wrestled since I was a little kid through junior college, at the four-year level. I used wrestling as my tool to get my degree, and I’m better than him at wrestling. I’m better than him at wrestling, I’m a better striker, I’m a better jiu-jitsu artist.”

Emmett, meanwhile, is coming off a KO win over Michael Johnson in March. That fight marked the first time Emmett had competed since he was knocked out and injured in his February, 2018 bout with Jeremy Stephens.
